Ronald A. Stephan Jr., Principal
Ron has more than 35 years in the hospitality industry as an owner, operator, and business consultant. His experience spans a variety of industries including restaurants, hotels, inns, food manufacturing, retail, real estate, housing, and assisted living industries.
As the owner and operator of a highly successful restaurant chain in Southern Maine, Ron grew the company to three locations, managed a team of 150 employees and oversaw all aspects of the operation including the manufacturing and distribution of a retail line of sauces sold regionally in the Northeast. Over the 33 years under his direction, the company won numerous awards and accolades including Best of Maine reader’s polls for 20 consecutive years.
Ron sold his business in 2015 and joined Spinglass Management Group (SMG) as the Senior Manager and Director of the Hospitality Division. SMG is business consulting firm located in Portland, ME and Boston, MA which specialized in turnaround and distress. Although Ron was the lead consultant for all food and hospitality related clients, he also performed in a variety of consulting capacities across many industries. He worked on numerous projects ranging from a start-up general store in the Boothbay region to providing bankruptcy support for a biomass company headquartered in Paris, France with 4 plants in New England (and many in between). Ron formed his own practice in 2022 and continues to work collaboratively on larger projects with Mark Stickney (SMG Founder).
